The Jund family is known for a famous quote from 1630, recorded in the customs chronicle of Colmar:
“In the month of September, Martin Jund, winegrower, discovered in his vineyard in Wettolsheim a bunch of grapes that measured the length of one aune minus a quarter. Part of the grapes were already ripe, while the other part was still in bloom.”
This anecdote stands out for its remarkable nature, but it also reflects a broader concept from the medieval period that persisted into modern times.
Around the town, enclosed by its ramparts, fields and vineyards were arranged in concentric circles—or sometimes amphitheatrically when the landscape allowed—accessible on foot for a round trip within a day.
The Jund family, originally from Austria and settled in Alsace in the early 16th century, were no exception to this tradition.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING
MARTIN JUND
(1888 - 1973)

ANNIE JUND
(1924 - 2008)
Upon Martin Jund's death in 1973, his daughter Annie Jund, born in 1924, separated from her husband Jean-Pierre Ducros, born in 1924, took over the estate. Farm manager from 1973 to 1980, she perpetuated the vineyard and opted, in 1970, for bottling in the family home on rue de l'Ange, one of the first to display its beautiful half-timbering, at a time when the plastering was falling, a shameful reflection of the particularity of the local habitat.
